Little girls have always had a fascination with princesses. I am a mother of three daughters and have planned, dressed, and baked more princess parties than I can remember. If you have a special little princess in your life who loves all things royal and you’re looking for a fun, themed activity, a princess-themed yoga class might be just the thing. It is entertaining, simple to coordinate, and will make your princess and her court have a great time.
First, choose the type of princess you are going to concentrate on. I would like my princesses to be friendly, adventurous, creative, problem solvers, daring, honest, kind, and, of course, chocolate lovers! The best pose to depict the princess is the Dancer’s Pose, which reflects the elegance of the character.
It is always important for every princess to have a companion, which is most often an animal, to accompany her on her journey. Allow the kids to select and decide on the name of the sidekick. The choices are a dog, cat, frog, mouse, donkey, rabbit, or tiger. If there is no such pose in yoga, let the children create one, which will help them develop imagination and motor skills.
After that, describe an adventure for the princess. This could be a magical place such as the Nile River, Amazon Jungle, European City, or Enchanted Island. On the other hand, present a villain, for example, an evil wizard, a selfish landlord, or a moneylender who disrupts the princess’s happy life.
Warm-Up
Start with some fun warm-up exercises:
- Dragon’s Breath: Breathe in deeply and breathe out as if you are blowing fire out of your mouth.
- Sleeping Beauty’s Breath: Stretch and yawn to bring the body to life.
Begin the adventure with “Once upon a time…” and guide the princess through various challenges using yoga poses:
- Cross rivers in Boat Pose
- Stretch mountain ranges in Mountain Pose
- Take a walk in the enchanted forest with Tree Pose Variations
- Flower Pose: Take a leisurely walk through some of the most picturesque gardens.
- Visit the Great Pyramids in Pyramid Pose
- Swim with dolphins in Dolphin Pose
On the way, the princess makes friends such as the Warrior and the Dragon who assist her in fighting the antagonist and rescuing the world. It is recommended to use the Warrior Pose and Dragon Pose to represent strength and bravery. Revise the fairy tales and come up with a happy ending to the story, for example, drinking the juice of the lotus flower (Lotus Pose) which is associated with purity and victory over the villain.
A good game that can be played is to replace the name Swami with Fairy Godmother and go through all the poses used during the adventure.
Finish the session with Corpse Pose so that the princess and her court can rest and have a good time.
This princess-themed yoga class is a great way to introduce the fairy tales and yoga to your little princess and her friends.
